Soul Khan - Resolution EP (Free Download)

If you still have no Soul Khan music in your collection by now, shame on you. Soul has been releasing quality music for years now. After his monstrous appearances on the battle circuit and his eventual retirement, he is one of the few who has made the transition to song making. Not just battle rap after battle rap. Actual music.

Today, the Brown Bag AllStar made one of his past EPs a free download. The "Resolution" EP was released back in 2011 and is entirely produced by Marink. It's one of many EPs and singles available on his Bandcamp page (some for a small fee). Also on there you can find his debut album "Soul Like Khan" which is also free. You've nothing to lose by checking out his music.

Here's "Resolution". His latest EP "Psalm" is also available now.

Big K.R.I.T. - 4Eva N A Day Instrumentals (Free Download)

KRIT

Late last week, Big K.R.I.T. took to Twitter to ask his fans which of his albums he should release the instrumentals for. Today he dropped all the backdrops from his 4Eva N A Day project. Who knows how long they'll be available for free, so I'd get them as soon as you can. Find them below.

King Kendrick

Kendrick

For the record, Kendrick Lamar has been outshining artists on their own records for the best part of three years. Let me just point that out before anything else.

I'm sure by now you've all heard Kendrick Lamar's verse on the otherwise forgettable Big Sean track "Control". The reason this was left off his new album is clear. No one's checking for Big Sean. Not really. Plus the fact that Kendrick's verse would have eclipsed Big Sean's whole album. Better to let it stand alone I'm guessing. I won't even get in to the phoned in and boring verse from Jay Electronica.

A lot of people are confused by his "I'm the king of New York" statement and the slew of peers he named on the track. Why do people think he dissed them? Did people actually listen to what he said? He basically acknowledges everyone mentioned but let's them know that he's out to take everyone's fan base. To 'murder' them lyrically.

Listen to Peter Rosenberg explain it better in this clip of "The Realness" on Hot 97. Cypha Sounds points out that everyone who WASN'T mentioned should be the ones to take offense. Truth.

Here's "Control" if you missed it. Kendrick goes in second.

Just Blaze & Baauer - Higher feat. Jay Z (Video)

JB

Here is the short film for "Higher" from Just Blaze and Baauer. For the past year, Just Blaze has been dabbling in (what America call) EDM (Electronic Dance Music) and joined forces with producer Baauer. The two have been touring together and "Higher" is the track that got people talking a few months back.

The track features vocal samples of various Jay Z tracks, most notably "U Don't Know" and "Change The Game".

Watch the video below and also see Just Blaze's appearance on Power 105.1's "The Breakfast Club" with DJ Envy, Angela Yee and Charlamagne Tha God.

Prodigy on The Process (Video)

P

Once again, Peter Rosenberg lines up another stellar guest for the latest edition of his Complex TV series "The Process". This time he has QB representative and Mobb Deep legend, Prodigy.

Originally hailing from Long Island, he talks about how his writing style had to change to fit with his adopted Queensbridge peers. His rhyming partner Havoc was instrumental in this and he explains how his improved ability often resulted in arguments over his verses being too long.

Watch the episode below and check out past interviews at Complex.

Stüssy’s Yo! MTV Raps Mini-Doc (Video)

Stussy

To coincide with their new "Raps" inspired collection, Stüssy commissioned a short documentary on the early days of Yo! MTV Raps and the influence it had and also the fashion in the golden era of Hip Hop.

Watch both parts below. The collection is available now.

The Kid Daytona & DJ Cut Killer - Classic Shit (Video)

Kid Cut

The Kid Daytona drops a visual for his collaboration with Paris' DJ Cut Killer. "Classic Shit" features Daytona over classic 90's French beats delivered by Cut Killer. I'll be honest, I don't know the instrumentals but one sounds familiar and I think it comes from an Alliance Ethnik song.

Check the video below and be on the look out for The Kid Daytona's upcoming project "Savoir Faire" which is out this Autumn.

100

Wilt

So after a little over a month, I've made it to my 100th post on the blog. For the past couple of days I was trying to think if there was anything special I could do to mark the occasion. I was going to do a whole piece on Hip Hop turning 40 years old but I decided to do a short history lesson on that yesterday instead.

As I haven't really plugged my Mixcloud selections on here, I thought I'd make a fresh one to add to my little collection. This time I've made quite a lengthy compilation made up of tunes I've gathered over the last few months, some songs featured on the blog and also a few old tracks thrown in too.

Stream "Raise Your Limits" below. I'll also have a download link for it soon. You can also find more of my mixes on Mixcloud.
